BLUESFEST SCHOOL OF MUSIC & ART BSOMA THE BLUESFEST SCHOOL OF MUSIC AND ART BRINGS INDUSTRY EXPERTISE TO THE COMMUNITY THROUGH GROUP PROGRAMMING, PRIVATE LESSONS AND SPECIAL EVENTS, ALL OF WHICH ARE AVAILABLE TO ARTISTS AND MUSICIANS OF ALL AGES AND ABILITIES. PRIVATE AND SEMI- PRIVATE LESSONS Private lessons provide the most impactful experience in music education. Our teachers are equipped to prepare students for both formal musical examinations, and casual play with friends and family. BSOMA offers private lessons in a variety of instruments and art mediums. They are offered year round and sign up is available at any time. Private lessons are $22.25 for 30 min. Semi-Private Lessons (2 or 3 students at the same time) are $17.25 for each student per 30 min. REGISTRATION FOR: SPRING I AND SPRING II SESSIONS START MARCH 3, 2015 After School Ukulele Club (8-16 yrs) This club will get kids playing in a group regardless of musical experience. Everything from classic rock to top 40 hits will be played! Kids new to the instrument won’t be overwhelmed while more experienced ukers will be challenged. As a club, arrival and departure times are flexible. Wed 9:30-10:30am, Mar 10 – May 5, 98145– $99 per child Wed 9:30-10:30am, May 13 – Jun 24, 98146– $99 per child Blues Harmonica (16+yrs) Skills taught include bending notes, 12-bar blues, major, and cross harp scales and more; all the skills and techniques required for wailing on your own and jamming with others. No experience necessary. Thu 7:00-8:00pm, Mar 12 – May 7, 98147 – $99 Thu 7:00-8:00pm, May 14 – Jun 25, 98148 – $99 Kids Choir (6-10yrs) Kids will build confidence and comfort together, practicing and preparing for their show on the BSOMA stage. Students will develop the skills necessary to perform in a group including group harmonies, pitch and how to project the voice. No experience necessary. Sat 11:00-11:55am, Mar 14 – May 9, 98141 – $99 Sat 11:00-11:55am, May 16 – Jun 27, 98142 – $99 Glee Club (10-16yrs) Glee Club leads future stars through vocals, choreography, stage presence and wardrobe. Songs will be selected by the group and mastered over the duration of the course. In this class you will learn to sing, dance and act. While learning to perform, you will also learn how to audition. GROUP LESSONS (CON’T) DJ Club (13-17yrs) Join local DJs on Friday evenings for lessons and coached sessions. Participants will use BSOMA’s equipment to practice and develop their craft. From microphones to mixers, amplifiers to equalization, sound physics and mixing techniques, this course will cover it all. Djembe This class introduces the djembe (an iconic African drum) and all the skills required to play various rhythms, and create a variety of sounds. Completion will provide a solid foundation for anyone who aspires to play guitar as a hobby or performer. Easy to play with smaller hands, the uke opens the door to the larger world of musical instruments in a fun way. We will learn to read and play chords, strum patterns, and then put it all together to play familiar songs. Thu 6:30-7:25pm, Mar 12 – May 7, 98135 Thu 6:30-7:25pm, May 14 – Jun 25, 98136 Bluesfest Community Choir Rediscover the joys of singing and belting out your favourite tunes in a casual community environment. This choir will have its final performance at the RBC Bluesfest in July! No experience necessary. Please note, the date and time of the final class is subject to change as a final rehearsal is required in preparation of the Bluesfest performance. Rehearsals take place on the first Monday of every month 6:00-8:00pm, ongoing. 96772 – $99 ROCK U LOVE CLASSIC ROCK LIKE THE ROLLING STONES AND JOURNEY? MAYBE YOU ARE MORE OF A BEATLES FAN? PERHAPS YOU PREFER TO ROCK OUT TO GREEN DAY AND PEARL JAM. ROCK U IS LOOKING FOR YOU! WE’RE FORMING CHILD, YOUTH AND ADULT COVER BANDS THAT WILL COME TOGETHER THIS SPRING, COACHED BY ONE OF OUR IN-HOUSE PROFESSIONAL MUSICIANS. Bands will rehearse for 2 hours each week with our resident band coaches, arranging and mastering cover songs in preparation for a live performance at RBC Bluesfest in July! Bands must complete a minimum of 24 hours of coached rehearsal to qualify for the performance at RBC Bluesfest. Register as an individual or as a band. Individuals will be grouped by age, playing ability, availability and interest Payment and details Initial registration fee of $99 per person covers the first 4 weeks of the 12 week (24 hour) program.
