WINEMAKER PROFILE LAURE COLOMBO WINEMAKER COLOMBO & FILLE VINEYARD REGIONS: RHÔNE VALLEY A rising star from the Rhône and one of the youngest from the region, Laure’s wines are approachable with a feminine elegance made with food in mind. Produced in limited quantities this boutique label is an inspired and personal story. Fruit for Colombo & Fille comes from a selection of the best grapes from the Colombo family vineyards and established growers from some of the most picturesque villages of the Rhône Valley. “Viticultural policy is very much about sustainability and harmony, with respect for nature and the environment. There is absolutely no irrigation - the philosophy being to grow fruit which has experienced a little stress to produce something with character and personality at the end of the day.” High quality wine, full of ripe primary fruits, with a perfect balance and sense of place representing the most beautiful villages of the Rhône Valley are key to all the wines. All the wines are crafted with the utmost care, in a very natural way in order to respect the fruit. The limited production allows perfect control in the winemaking process in small tanks. The objective during the vinification is to preserve the primary aromas of the grapes and to make supple, silky, floral and juicy ripe wines. The use of new oak is limited during maturation to achieve balance and subtlety. 22
Product Code Product ABV Size Taste Guide Suitable for Vegetarians (V) Vegans (VE) RHONE The Rhone valley produces some of the most delicious red wines in France, from Grenache based wines in the South (such as Chateauneuf) to the spicy Syrah based wines in the North (Crozes Hermitage). The Grenache grape produces rich red wines with lots of flavour but soft tannins and is much underated. Try our superb new Cotes du Rhone Villages from Domaine de Pasquiers, a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mouvedre and our new Chateauneuf du Pape from Laure Colombo, a beautifully made wine. RHONE RED 152954 NEW Cotes du Rhone Pierre & Remy Gauthier 13.5% 75cl B Deep ruby in appearance and full bodied with rich aromas on the nose and warm, rustic berry fruit flavours on the palate leading to a spicy finish. Drink with: grilled lamb cutlets, chicken breast, rich vegetable casserole. ££ 152816 Cotes du Rhone Villages Domaine des Pasquiers 13.5% 75cl C BR Plan de Dieu 2009 Superb rich flavoured Rhone from the Domaine des Pasquiers. A blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre from old vines averaging 30 years. Cotes du Rhone at its very best. Drink with: red meat and rich flavoured dishes. £££ 149206 Crozes Hermitage Les Brunelles 13.5% 75cl D NEW Rich, spicy Syrah with good concentration and length of flavour. Nice balance of spicy Syrah fruit and firm but attractive tannins. Super quality. Drink with: cassolette or other rich casseroles. £££ 153411 Chateauneuf du Pape Cellier des Princes 2009/10 13.5% NEW Delicious, warm, rich fruit flavours typical of Grenache and Chateauneuf. 75cl D Excellent quality with soft supple tannins. Good wine from a specialist producer. Drink with: fillet steak, roast lamb & other red meats. £££ 153545 Chateauneuf du Pape Colombo and Fille 2009/10 13.5% 75cl D A blend of 30% Grenache, 40% Mourvedre 30% Syrah. It has full herby characters BR on the nose with spices, pepper and the classic dusty garrigue notes. Smoky, earthy notes NEW follow through on the palate with heady alcohol, plenty of fruit, and a soft texture with good freshness and purity. Drink with: cassolette or other rich meat dishes. £££ GERMAN WINES The majority of vineyards in Germany border the river Rhine or its major tributary the Mosel. It is a mainly white wine region though a number of black grapes are cultivated. Traditionally German wines have had a degree of sweetness but there is now a definite shift towards the production of drier styles. Drink with: aperitif, salads, spicy food. £ 034033 Niersteiner Gutes Domtal QbA Schmitt Sohne 10% 75cl 4 A full flavoured wine from the vineyards of the Rhine Valley. Medium sweet with a fragrant nose, good body and refreshing, steely fruit. Drink with: aperitif, salads, spicy food. £ 151466 Reichsrat von Buhl Riesling QBA Pfalz 2007/08 12% 75cl 1 VE BIN END Delightfully fresh, light, bright and aromatic, with lovely lemon and grapefruit character.
