‘Throw blankets’ chote kambal hai
masculine, hence it would be better for students to see बहुरंगा छाता, even
though बहुरंगी be completely proper.
12 While perfectly correct, “umbrella” [little shade] is now taken to be rain
apparel; to distinguish, people often say “sun umbrella”, “parasol”, and
even “sunshade”. Also छतर� is a parasol, a small umbrella.
13 We are in a quandary here: डालना is “to spread (a blanket)”; whereas डाल
देना can be either “to abandon, to cast off; to thrust in”… or “give a bridal
gift”–and to some, “to give a branch”. To avoid confusion, it may be well to
use the simple डालना.
