pcadv speaks on behalf of member programs on issues of statewide
importance, including policy and legislation. Whenever possible, pcadv
seeks input from member programs on development of positions and public
statements to the media.
Section Six
STATEWIDE Media
Advocacy/Response
◗ PCADV’s Communications Team is the
first point of contact for media inquiries
and coordinates the organization’s media
responses.
◗ PCADV’s executive director is the primary
spokesperson for the organization. At times,
the executive director may delegate this
responsibility to another PCADV staff or
Board member or refer media to a member
program.
◗ As a general rule, PCADV does not
comment on specific incidents, cases, or
individuals.
LOCAL Media Advocacy/Response
◗ PCADV programs take the lead on local
media outreach and response. PCADV
staff is available to assist programs
in responding to media inquiries. All
requests should be referred to PCADV’s
Communications Team:

◗ When appropriate, PCADV staff will
develop talking points, sample letters, press
release templates and other background
material for use by programs. PCADV also
will connect programs with a PCADV staff
person to provide in-depth support around a
topic area.
◗ PCADV staff may issue statements, in
consultation with programs, regarding local
media stories with statewide implications.
Options include PCADV speaking from a
statewide perspective, a program speaking
as local expert, or PCADV and the program
releasing a joint statement.
◗ PCADV staff will inform programs when
they respond to local media inquiries.
Programs are asked to inform PCADV when
they send press releases or offer comment to
local media on statewide issues.
Coalition Identity
◗ PCADV will identify itself as “a statewide
network of 60 community-based programs
providing free and confidential services to
domestic violence victims and their children
in all 67 counties.”
◗ Programs are encouraged to identify
themselves as “a member of the Pennsylvania
Coalition Against Domestic Violence, a
statewide network of 60 community-based
programs providing free and confidential
services to domestic violence victims and
their children in all 67 counties.”
At no time will PCADV share information
with the media about status of services to a
victim or family, unless authorized to do so
by the victim or surviving family members.
