Work Related Skills Senior Units 1&2Unit purposeThe Work Related Skills Senior Unit provides a focus for the development of work related and vocational skills ina workplace context or appropriate simulation. There is no formal on the job training requirement within theVictorian Certificate of Applied Learning. However, students may undertake, within their Learning Program, aSWL or on the job learning or recognition of prior learning in a work context. This will be counted as a unit wherestudents are able to meet the learning outcomes of the unit through their SWL or part time work over 100 nominalhours. The overall aims of the unit include:•integrating learning of increasing complexity of work related skills with prior knowledge and experiences aboutwork•further enhancing the development of Key Competencies through increasingly complex work related activity•developing increasingly complex critical thinking skills that apply to problem solving situations in the workcontext•developing planning and organisational skills that incorporate evaluation and review•applying increasingly complex transferable skills to work related contexts.Learning outcomes and assessment criteriaStudents must show competence in all six learning outcomes.Unit 1Learning outcome 1Research information about the career pathways, functions and layout of a specific industry or workplace.Learning outcome 2Communicate ideas and information about OH&S requirements for a work environment.Learning outcome 3Assist in the Hazard Identification Risk Assessment and Control planning process to meet OH&S requirements ina work related context.Learning outcome 4Develop an OH&S plan for a work related environment that addresses at least five OH&S concerns.Learning outcome 5Work with others and in teams in a work environment in accordance with defined workplace procedures.Learning outcome 6Use information and communication technology in accordance with workplace procedures.Learning outcome 7Use technology in accordance with OH&S guidelines in a work related context.Unit 2Learning outcome 1Collect, analyse and evaluate information in a work environment.Learning outcome 2Communicate ideas and information in a work environment.Learning outcome 3Plan, organise and manage activities in a work environment incorporating quality assurance processes.Learning outcome 4Identify and solve problems in a work environment.Learning outcome 5Work with others and in teams in a work environment.Learning outcome 6Use information and communication technology in relation to a complex work related activity.Learning outcome 7Identify, apply and evaluate technology in a work environment.Learning outcome 8Show enterprise and identify opportunities in work processes.AssessmentA range of assessment methods may be applied to VCAL Senior Unit.
