SUBJECT SELECTIONYEAR 10The following information is a guide to correct subject selection:PATHWAY 1: TOWARDS VCAL1. Students undertaking this pathway will select a core program of Foundation English, Foundation Mathematics,Personal Development, “Personal Futures” and Work Related Skills.2. Students are required to complete a VETiS subject or SBAT Semester 1 & 2Please refer to the description of VETiS / SBAT subjects in the second half of this booklet.The purpose of this is to provide opportunities for students to:• extend and challenge themselves beyond the programs offered at Year 10• begin working towards a qualification – VET certificate• commence a compulsory aspect of the VCAL certificate.PATHWAY 2Students must complete a total of <strong>12</strong> semester length units (6 per semester).This includes some compulsory units and some elective units.1. Students are required to complete the following compulsory units:ENGLISH Semester 1 & 2MATHEMATICS Semester 1 & 22. Students are required to complete a VETiS or VCE subject Semester 1 & 2Please refer to the description of VCE subjects and VETiS subjects in the second half of this booklet.The purpose of this is to:- provide opportunities for students to extend and challenge themselves beyond the programs offered atYear 10.- stimulate the ongoing development of a culture supportive of striving for excellence;- provide opportunities for students to increase their university entrance scores by completing a programof six studies with study scores;- introduce students to the demands of VCE studies.3. Students are required to complete an additional 6 study units:The recommendation is to choose subjects which:• you like and are interested in;• you are good at; and ones where• you would like to further develop your skills.In most cases we recommend that students pick subjects from a broad range of learning areas: Science, TheHumanities, Health and Physical Education, The Arts, Technology and Languages other than English. Students
should also think about what they would like to study in Years 11 and <strong>12</strong> to ensure that they develop the necessaryskills and knowledge in these areas during Year 10.5. LOTE (Indonesian & German) are elective subjects that run for the entire year. Students may elect to study thesesubjects for one semester or for the entire year. If students are intending to continue with their language studyinto Year 11 they must do the language for both semesters.
