Renee-Pelagie continued to try to have her motherarrested. Her efforts were rewarded with a promise from highgovernment officials that an appeal would be presented in theparliament to cancel Sade’s sentence. This would then lead toinvalidation of the lettre de cachet (an order from the king that a givenperson be imprisoned without trial and with no predeterminedsentence) that had also been issued against Sade.Sade, with an end to his legal troubles in sight, intensified hispursuit of pleasure. He had a procuress known as Nanon find himfive fifteen-year-old girls who were taken to Lacoste and forced tosubmit to Sade’s brutality. Sade’s wife was a participant in thesenew sexual extravaganzas.
