year 1Year 1 will provide a series of practical workshops andstudio teaching where you will develop the design andtechnical skills relevant to the practice of make-up andspecial effects. You will not only gain an understandingof the work of the make-up artist but also how this roleintegrates with others in the creative process.year 2Year 2 will focus on your individual development andyou will build on and develop the skills learnt in Year 1,refining your technical abilities and knowledge of theplace of the make-up artist within the creative team.Educational visits to a variety of performances andevents will be an important aspect of the course.Throughout the course, live projects (includingthose within our own film, acting and costumeareas) and other industry-linked experiences willbe supported and encouraged in order to developyour professional expertise.year 3Year 3 will allow you to develop accomplishedtechnical aptitude and build upon your knowledgeof contemporary approaches to make-up designand transformation, with a particular emphasis onspecialist disciplines such as prosthetics. Througha series of live projects and collaborations, youwill extend your portfolio of work within a range ofprofessional contexts. The course also encourages youto investigate your practice and develop an intellectualand philosophical understanding of key critical andcontextual issues.This course is currently offered as a FoundationDegree. We propose to offer the course as a BA (Hons)Degree from 2012 (subject to validation).interVieWs and portFoliosCreative designers and techniciansmaintain their positions of excellencethrough constant research and anawareness of current developmentsrelating to their art. We expectapplicants to show abilities in research,the development of ideas, selfmotivationand commitment to thisarea of study. Evidence of your workin an area or areas of make-up and/ormake-up design will be an advantage,but primarily we require evidence ofthe creative process together witha strong sense of colour.
