Setting Up the Fiscal YearBig PictureThe General Ledger application lets you decide how long youwant your accounting periods. You can set up one of thefollowing periods:• yearly• quarterly• monthly (the last day of each month)• every four weeks (13 period year)After you enter the length of your accounting periods, enterstarting and ending dates of the first period. The system willautomatically enter the dates remaining in the fiscal year.1. Decide Length of AccountingPeriods2. GRMUAccounting Period MaintenanceStep 2 — Setting Up the Fiscal YearGRMUThe first step in customizing the General Ledger application isto set up the length of accounting periods. Below is an exampleof a quarterly accounting period and how you should enter thedates in Function GRMU: (based on the fiscal year 10/1 to 9/30)Default Period Code: Q1. 10/1 to 12/302. The system enters the dates.3. The system enters the dates.4. The system enters the dates.14. You must enter the current period date to the next period.- The system uses this date to validate journal entrydates entered in Function GSJU—Recurring JournalTransaction Processing and Function GGMU—GeneralJournal Transaction Processing.- The system changes the current period start and enddates at the end of every fiscal year to the next year(after running Function GYEN—Year-End Procedure).NOTE:When you work in different periods, change theCurrent Period field.
