Hugh Faulkner, the Minister responsible for ParksCanad.a, and Art. Pearson, Ccnrnissioner of thre Yukon, announced thrat theinvestigations wiII take place r:nder Parks Canada's Agresnent for Recreationand Conserr/ation program. Thre study will be crcnducted along ttre YukonRiver system frcrn Berurett, B.C. to ttre Internatj-onal Bor:ndaqz, dovmstreamfrcm Dawson City. Mr. Faulkner said tlre ARC program will allow ttre federaland territorial gover:runents to enter into a joint agreenent to @nsela/e 'protect and rnanage the recrealional- and heritage resources along tlre YukonRiver. Under such an agreenent, existing uses along tJ:e river will beacknowledged , but any new develoSment shorrld be conpatiJcle with ttrehistoric nature of tkris fanpus river corridor.@nnissioner Pearson emphasized it was vitally import:nt to receive crcrmnentsfrcm Yukoners, in order to assist tLre planners who will be working on thisproject.
