His Beatitude MetropolitanCon stantine and His Grace BishopDaniel of the UOC of USA along withHis Eminence Metropolitan Yurij andHis Grace Bishop Andriy of the Uk -rain ian Orthodox Church of Canadajoined Archbishop Antony at the altarof St. Andrew Ukrainian Orthodox Ca -thedral in Silver Spring, MD for themost important part of the celebration—the Holy Eucharist.Metropolitan Constantine spokefollowing the conclusion of the DivineLiturgy expressing his gratitude to theAlmighty God for Archbishop An to -Metropolitan Yurij greeting Archbishop Antony.ny’s dedicated service and the ability totouch the lives of those who entrustedinto his spiritual care.The day continued with a festivebanquet at St. Andrew’s parish hall, ga -thering over 300 guests. Metropol itanConstantine opened the gatheringwith a prayer and the address of HisAll-Holiness Ecumenical PatriarchBar tholomew, who greeted the Arch -bishop with a congratulatory letter.His Eminence Metropolitan Yurij,newly installed Primate of the Ukrain -ian Orthodox Church of Canada,greeted Archbishop Antony at the banquetin behalf of his Church Admin -istration and all his clergy and faithful,recalling their more than 40 year longfriendship since first meeting in hisfirst year and the Archbishop’s finalyear of studies at St. Andrew Seminaryin Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Hespoke of the many times they haveworked together on various projects ashierarchs of the Church and the manytimes that Archbishop Antony hastaken part in the life of the Church inCanada. Bishop Andriy greeted in be -half of all the Canadian hierarchs—including Bishop Ilarion, who was un -able to attend the celebration—andpre sented the Archbishop with a beautifulicon of St. Antony the Great forutilization in his liturgical and prayerlife.Archbishop Antony spoke of thegreat mystery of events that took place25 years ago – on October 6, 1985—when he knelt down before the altar ofSt. Andrew Memorial Church in SouthBound Brook and was gifted with thereality of the Grace of God, whichwould fulfill that which was lacking inhim and strengthen him along the en -tire path of his episcopal ministry. Hespoke of the struggle for all bishopsand for any rank of the priesthood toremember at all times that they areministers of Christ—to His Churchand to His people. The bishop cannotadd anything to the Good News or of -fer any salvation on his own. He canonly assist those entrusted to his spiritualcare in growing in their faith andfollowing the narrow path, which leadsto God’s Heavenly Kingdom.The Archbishop offered special andemotional words of gratitude to manypeople for their influence on his life.He presented a bouquet of flowers tohis mother Dorothy, who was overcomewith emotion at the long-standingovation given to her by the entiregathering. His Eminence made specialmention of all those who providedvery specific and powerful spiritualand emotional presence in his life, all atthe appropriate times.On the following day, Sunday, Jan -uary 23, 2011, His Eminence Archbi -shop Antony served a Divine Liturgy ofThanksgiving at St. Andrew Cath edral,while the parish family greeted theirPress Releasehierarch on his upcoming Name’s Dayand birthday.Concluding the celebrations withthis Liturgy, the Archbishop stated: "AsI give thanks to God for the uniqueprivilege of having been your shepherdall these years, I also want to thankeach of you for your own witness ofopenness to the gifts and challenges ofthe Holy Spirit according to the particularcircumstances of your life. As Idraw my comments to a conclusion, Iwant to take the occasion to publiclythank all the members of the clergy –deacons and priests alike—for theirfaithful service and partnership in proclaimingthe Gospel and celebratingthe Mysteries of our Lord.
