<strong>Graduate</strong> Catalog: Section 14.3http://graduate.ua.edu/catalog/25900.htmlTHE UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA GRADUATE CATALOGTable <strong>of</strong> Contents > Capstone College <strong>of</strong> Nursing14.3 DUAL M.S.N./M.A. DEGREES<strong>The</strong> Capstone College <strong>of</strong> Nursing and the Manderson <strong>Graduate</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> Business <strong>of</strong>fer dual degrees including themaster <strong>of</strong> science in nursing (M.S.N.) and the master <strong>of</strong> arts (M.A.) in management. This program <strong>of</strong> study providesstudents with an educational background for clinical practice in nursing case management as well as health caremanagement. Admission to this program <strong>of</strong> study is available in the fall semester.Admission RequirementsApplicants must apply for admission to the <strong>Graduate</strong> <strong>School</strong>, meet criteria for admission to the master <strong>of</strong> science innursing and the master <strong>of</strong> arts in management, and be recommended for admission by both the Capstone College <strong>of</strong>Nursing graduate program and the Manderson <strong>Graduate</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> Business.Degree Requirements<strong>The</strong> degrees will be awarded to students who (1) successfully complete the required hours <strong>of</strong> coursework with a 3.0or higher GPA and (2) are in good standing at the time <strong>of</strong> graduation.<strong>The</strong> degrees must be completed simultaneously.If a student is enrolled in the dual-degree program <strong>of</strong> study and opts out <strong>of</strong> one <strong>of</strong> the degrees, the student mustcomplete the "regular" version <strong>of</strong> the degree program. That is, the student would not be able to earn the degree bycompleting only the truncated set <strong>of</strong> requirements for the dual degree.If a student opts out <strong>of</strong> one <strong>of</strong> the degrees and completes the other, then later decides to pursue the remainingdegree, the student cannot complete the truncated version <strong>of</strong> that program's requirements to earn the degree. <strong>The</strong>"maximum 6 hours from a previous degree" policy would be in effect for the second degree.Curriculum<strong>The</strong> dual M.S.N./M.A. degrees can be completed in two years <strong>of</strong> full-time study.
