About Your Association
For 62 years, the Illinois Health Care Association (IHCA) has been a major voice
for long term care in Illinois. IHCA provides you with timely, reliable and concise
information so you are able to make wiser business and professional decisions. You are
part of an elite group that can be proud of the many accomplishments you have made
on behalf of those residents needing assistance.
With the many challenges facing the long term care profession, IHCA staff attempt
to do whatever it takes to help you resolve problems and tackle complex issues. We are
continually striving to make your career in long term care more fulfilling.
Since its inception in 1950, IHCA has continued to grow in size and scope. Here are
just some of the services provided to members:
Public Policy
Active involvement in legislative initiatives,
regulatory issues and political activities is
vital to our success.
The Health Care Council of Illinois (HCCI) carries the
geriatric public policy banner for both the Illinois Health Care Association and the
Illinois Council on Long Term Care. This joint venture enables the long term care
profession to speak with a stronger, unified voice for the residents served in nursing
homes in Illinois. HCCI tracks legislation, informs and updates members and generates
grassroots activities when appropriate.
The Center for Developmental Disabilities Advocacy and Community Supports
(CDDACS) works on behalf of the facilities and programs for the developmentally
disabled that are part of the IHCA membership. The Center employs staff dedicated
solely to achieving its specific goals and objectives, including tracking legislation,
impacting the regulatory environment, organizing grassroots activities and working
with legislators to educate them on issues more specific to its mission.
In addition, both organizations monitor the state’s political climate and raise funds
to support legislative candidates for public office who support effective, adequatelyfunded,
quality long term care and ID/DD issues.
Pertinent Educational Seminars
IHCA offers a variety of educational opportunities
for long term care professionals to expand their
knowledge, skills, and horizons. The Education,
Convention and Trade Show Committee assists IHCA staff in the planning of the
education agenda by identifying appropriate topics related to the needs and issues of the
