That's what "Private" DonCarlson and staff discovered this year, as theyfought sundry war-born p roblems to put outthe 1943 GEM oF THE MouNTAINS.Throughout production, staff, printer, andengraver were faced with problems which attimes looked as if they might prevent publishingthe book. And when the book finally reachedthe presses, all concerned breathed sighs ofrelief.Among things which slowed GEM productionthis year were: A shortage of photographic andengraving supplies, because of war needs; a lackof student interest in publications; the loss ofstudent workers to the armed forces; and a general upheaval of conventional college activity.It was through the efforts of a handful offaithful staff members and the sacrifices ofPrinter Ralph York that THE GEM was finallyfinished.This year's book is not a radical departurefrom previous GEMS, but the staff has endeavoredto put out a book which records a year atB&'r'Tit FR ..
