By far the outstanding dance of the college yearwas the Senior Ball, which carried a "WhiteChristmas" theme-because of the popularityof the musical hit of that name.T he Ball was held in early D ecem ber, a n dSeniors spen t many hours turning t he Bucketballroom into a winter wonderland for theevent. There were silver pines, icicles, a ndfrosted window panes. And the weather cooperatedto complete t he setting when snow fell theday of the dance and left the cam pus white.Matt Lewis took charge of all arrangementsfor the ball, assisted by Ray Hoobing, HelenWilson, Mary F ra n Marshall, Dale Reynolds.Harry Mosman, Rowena Nordby, and j eanMann.This year's ball diffe red from t hose of previousyears in two respects: M ili tary uniformswere as much in vogue as the traditional tuxedo,a nd corsages were made from war s tampsinstead of flowers. But the ball s till retained astilted atmosphere, and t he re was t he old receivingline and the grand m a rc h. As usual thestate governor a nd other dignita ries who neverattend were the "guests of honor" a t the ball.Putting on a successful dance wasn't t he onlyaccomplishmen t of this year's class officers,however.
