I N T R O D U C T I o nMADE by Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights NetworkThis report aims at contributing to highlight the importance of economic and social rightspromotion and protection in Tunisia; it does so by discussing what future Tunisian economicand social policies should look like, and by questioning what European policies should be in thisregard.The report comes at a time when discussions in Tunisia about the country’s future politicalconfiguration are flourishing after decades of oppression of fundamental freedoms andpolitical dissent.The report is built on the 1993 Vienna World Conference on Human Rights Declaration thathuman rights are universal, indivisible, interdependent and interrelated. It welcomes that politicaland constitutional reform is being discussed in Tunisia but insists that it would be a fundamentalflaw to neglect looking into the need of reforming Tunisian economic and social policies as wellas, hence also EU -Tunisian cooperation in this field20The overthrow of Ben Ali was the result of a popular uprising, led by youth, in a quest for respectof its inherent dignity and worth, for social, political and economic and political justice.
