<strong>The</strong> <strong>European</strong> E-<strong>Business</strong> <strong>Report</strong> <strong>2004</strong>the first part of this report. <strong>The</strong> full case studies are included in the second series of Sector Impact<strong>Report</strong>s (August <strong>2004</strong> – available under ‘Publications’at www.ebusiness-watch.org).Industry statistics from secondary sources<strong>The</strong> e-<strong>Business</strong> W@tch uses the Eurostat New Cronos Database as its main secondary source ofmacroeconomic statistical data about the sectors covered. Data from New Cronos are used asbackground information and for the elaboration of sector profiles in the first part of the Sector Studies.New Cronos is structured in nine parts (“themes”). Most of the data used for the sector studies arederived from theme 4 “Industry, trade, and services”, and here from the collection sbs (structuralbusiness statistics). Statistics were prepared by DIW Berlin, which obtained the most recent dataavailable from Eurostat in November 2003. Gaps in the official statistics resulting from missing data forindividual countries or the respective year in the time-series of a country were imputed based oneconomic calculations and estimates by DIW. Official statistics for industry-wide macro-economicindicators are at best available for 2001.
