See Section 7.3.3. This preventsthe pool water from becoming chilled, <strong>and</strong> minimizesthe time required to raise the pool water back up to thedesired temperature.If the heater is not going to be used for a longperiod of time, shut it down compl<strong>et</strong>ely. Follow theinstructions found on the inside of the heater, orFigure 29.8.2.2 WinterizingIn areas where freezing temperatures occur inwinter <strong>and</strong> the pool or spa will not be used, have yourservice technician perform the following steps:1. Turn off the main gas supply to the heater, usingthe gas cock outside the heater jack<strong>et</strong>.2. Remove heater door.O-RINGDRAIN PLUG3. Shut down the heater following the shutdowninstructions found on the inside of the heater orrefer to Figure 29.4. Remove the drain plugs from both the inl<strong>et</strong>/outl<strong>et</strong>header <strong>and</strong> the r<strong>et</strong>urn header (see Figure 33 <strong>and</strong>Sections 11.3 <strong>and</strong> 11.4, Exploded Views), <strong>and</strong>compl<strong>et</strong>ely drain the heater before the first frost.8. Disconnect the pressure switch from the siphonloop (copper tubing).9. Cover the vent grill so that snow will not accumulatein the combustion chamber, where it mayfreeze.8.2.3 Spring Start-upTo restart the heater in the Spring, have a qualifiedprofessional technician reassemble the heater asfollows:1. Tighten the drain plug.2. Uncover the vent grill.3. Make sure that power is supplied to the pump.Turn on the filter pump <strong>and</strong> circulate waterthrough the heater for 5 minutes. Check for leakswhile circulating.4. Turn on the main gas supply to the heater at thegas cock outside the heater jack<strong>et</strong>.5. Turn on the heater following the lighting instructionsfound on the inside of the heater, orFigure 29.8.3 Inspection <strong>and</strong> ServiceThe <strong>LXi</strong> heater is designed <strong>and</strong> constructed toprovide long performance life when installed <strong>and</strong>operated properly under normal conditions. Periodicinspections, especially at spring start-up, are importantto keep your heater running safely <strong>and</strong> efficientlythrough the years.
