Business Description: Multifilm Packaging is a fully integrated manufacturer
of flexible packaging solutions for the food, beverage, and confectionery
industries, serving the north American market. We specialize in piece wraps
for confections and high-barrier laminates.
Our products include twist wraps, flow wraps, bag and pouch film, both single
web and laminates. Our markets include confections, snack foods, dry foods,
coffee, powders, and a variety of other applications.
Our capabilities include cast film extrusion of CPP and PE, metallizing and
de-metallizing, printing, laminating, coating, and slitting. All these processes
are done under one roof in our facility in Elgin, IL, just outside Chicago.
We are ISO 9000 2008 and AIB certified and we have a well-equipped
Quality Assurance lab in-house to assure that our products meet the
most rigorous quality standards - yours. We also follow GMP and HAACP
guidelines.
Environmental stewardship is important to Multifilm, and our newly installed
Geothermal Process Cooling & HVAC System makes us one of the least
energy-consuming converters around. All of our products are FDA approved
and completely free of BPA and lead. We also offer materials that are PVC
free, and we have the supporting documentation that our customers need.
Products / services / Brands:
UltraWrap - The ultimate twist material.
Designed specifically to compete with cellophane where other materials
have failed in the past, UltraWrap is a 5-layer cast modified, high-crystalline
polyethylene based film. UltraWrap has excellent stiffness, twist and dead
fold properties, and features high clarity and gloss. It is a very stable material,
and will not dry out and turn brittle in low-humidity conditions. The material
works very well on the majority of twist wrap machines on the market today,
including cut ‘n wrap machines for taffy and caramels. UltraWrap is also ideal
for wrapping chocolates and pre-formed confection.
SuperSeal - The alternative sealant web.
SuperSeal is a proprietary, cast-modified polypropylene sealant web that
competes with OPP and PE for bag film and flow wrap laminates. With a seal
layer six times thicker than most OPP grades, seals are hermetic and leakers
are a thing of the past. SuperSeal has an excellent water barrier and hot tack,
and easily seals through contaminations, such as food dust and spills.
SuperSeal is clearer and more scratch resistant than PE, and is perfect for
packing abrasive products in a clear window pouch. SuperSeal is also stiffer
than PE and often allows for downgauging, which helps save both money
and the environment by reducing the amount of packaging used.
SuperSeal can be laminated to OPP, PET, and paper, and is available is
many gauges ranging from 40ga to over 3 mils. The film is available in clear
or white.
Hi-Z - The high-barrier, metallized flow wrap.
Our Hi-Z film is a proprietary, metallized sealant web that makes for an
outstanding flow wrapper. The hermetic seals and barrier are far superior to
an OPP/MET OPP laminate, and the running speed is much faster than a
PET/MET PET/PE triplex laminate.
Hi-Z is available in 1.0 mil and 1.2 mil thicknesses, can be laminated to OPP,
matte OPP or PET and reverse printed for excellent gloss. It can also be
laminated to a surface printed paper as a replacement for PPFP laminates in
applications where the absolute barrier of foil is too expensive or simply not
necessary.
Hi-Z is ideal for bar applications for chocolate, granola, and energy bars
and breakfast bars. It’s also perfect for any application that requires the
combination of high barrier and high speed.
Hi-E - The high-barrier, metallized sealant web.
Similar to Hi-Z, Hi-E is a high-barrier, metallized sealant web, but more
suitable for bag and pouch applications. Hi-E features high gas barrier
and oxygen barrier and an easy-open feature. Just like Hi-Z, Hi-E can be
laminated to a reverse printed PET or OPP, depending on the application.
Hi-E is stiffer than PE, and is an excellent way to reduce material and the
amount of packaging used in an application. Hi-E is available in 1.0, 1.2, and
1.6 mil thicknesses.
D-Met - Metallized bag with a window!
D-Met is a so-called de-metallization process that partly removes metal
from a metallized film, leaving a clear window in an otherwise metallized
design. Backing printing inks with a metallized film gives the packaging
excellent visual appeal as the colors appear metallic and shiny. With D-Met,
we remove specific parts of the metal to reveal the product inside while still
backing the printing inks with metal. The product is displayed like a clear
window bag, and the colors have the brilliance of a metallized bag.
D-Met is the ideal process for creating a package that stands out on the shelf.
In today’s economy, differentiation is more important than ever, and D-Met
will make the product pop on the shelf.
The concept of de-metallization is not new, but it has traditionally been done
mostly in Asia, commanding a premium price and creating logistics issues
with long lead times. A way around it has been the use of metallized inks
that have a similar appearance, but the high cost of such inks has prevented
widespread use. Multifilm Packaging is the only integrated converter in north
America to offer the process.
D-Met can be applied to virtually any material; if it can be metallized, it can
be de-metallized. The process can be applied to both single web over-wrap
films and protected laminations for bag films to serve a large variety of
applications. And because Multifilm is an integrated converter with in-house
extrusion, printing, metallization, lamination, and now de-metallization, D-Met
is more cost-effective than ever.
