Brown has a BSc in physics and math from<br />
Oklahoma State University.<br />

Dr. Edward D. Cohen is a<br />
technical consultant in all<br />
aspects of the web coating<br />
process. His expertise<br />
includes the coating and<br />
drying of thin films, coating<br />
process development and<br />
scale-up, polyester base development, film<br />
defect mechanisms, defect characterization<br />
techniques, litigation support and professional<br />
development activities for scientists.<br />
Cohen has many years of experience<br />
in coating research and manufacturing<br />
technology with the DuPont Company,<br />
where he retired as a DuPont Fellow, and as<br />
a consultant. He has extensive publications<br />
in the field and has published several books<br />
and articles for industry publications. He<br />
was founding president of the International<br />
Society of <strong>Coating</strong> Science and Technology.<br />
He has a Bachelor of Science in Chemical<br />
Engineering from Tufts University and<br />
a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the<br />
University of Delaware. His honors are the<br />
John Tallmadge Award for contributions<br />
to coating technology and the AIMCAL<br />
President’s award. Currently he is technical<br />
consultant for AIMCAL.<br />

Associates, Larry Gogolin<br />
consults in dozens of<br />
industries that use web<br />
coating applications and<br />
help clients develop and<br />
improve coating processes<br />
and select equipment. He also evaluates<br />
coating companies, helps clients find<br />
contract coating firms and teaches seminars<br />
in coating technology.<br />
Prior to becoming a technical consultant in<br />
the process, chemical and coating areas in<br />
1988, Larry spent 23 years at Polaroid Corp.<br />
where he managed the quality and technical<br />
support groups. He also led the technical<br />
group that contracted Polaroid’s excess<br />
coating capacity to external customers<br />
and he helped develop specifications and<br />
sourcing for new coating equipment.<br />
Larry has a Masters in Engineering<br />
Management and a B.S. degree in Chemical<br />
Engineering.<br />

Dr. Dilwyn Jones is a<br />
consultant in Materials<br />
Science and Engineering,<br />
working through his<br />
company Emral Ltd based<br />
in the north East of England.<br />
He graduated from the<br />
University of Cambridge with first class<br />
honours in natural Sciences, and stayed<br />
on to complete a Ph.D. in Low Temperature<br />
Physics. He then joined ICI (Imperial<br />
Chemical Industries) where he worked on<br />
the processing and properties of polymers<br />
at their laboratories in Welwyn Garden City<br />
and Wilton, and during secondments to<br />
Cranfield Institute of Technology and the ICI<br />
production facility at Hopewell, Virginia. He<br />
moved to DuPont in 1998, along with ICI’s<br />
Polyester Film business. He established<br />
his consultancy business in 2000, where<br />
he works with clients worldwide on web<br />
handling, polymer processing and properties,<br />
static charge, training, software development<br />
and Finite Element Analysis, bringing a blend<br />
of fundamental understanding, modeling and<br />
practical application.<br />
As a specialist in Polyester Film technology<br />
from 1984, Jones has been involved with<br />
winding and web handling since that time. He<br />
provides technical support to Rheologic, Ltd.<br />
for their TopWeb web handling software. He<br />
has attended all but one of the International<br />
Web Handling Conferences, has presented<br />
a Keynote Address in 2001 and has won<br />
Best Paper awards in 2007 and 2011.<br />
He has presented papers and tutorials at<br />
all of AIMCAL’s Applied Web Handling<br />
Conferences. He served on the committee<br />
of the Printing and Graphics Science<br />
Group of the Institute of Physics from 2000-<br />
2010, chairing the group for 4 years, which<br />
included a successful relaunch. In all, Jones<br />
has authored 15 journal papers and has<br />
completed 42 conference presentations.<br />

Clarence Klassen is president<br />
of KlassEngineering, which<br />
was incorporated in 1999.<br />

Ontario Ministry of Labour.<br />
Klassen applies 31 years of experience in the<br />
pulp and paper industry to solving problems<br />
with drives for web handling. He has 10<br />
years of experience as a drives engineer<br />
with GE Canada and 10 years of experience<br />
with Opcode Systems Inc., a PLC and Drives<br />
Systems Integrator. Much of Klassen’s<br />
experience was gained in onsite installation<br />
of new equipment and troubleshooting of<br />
existing equipment. He is a Designated<br />
Consulting Engineer with the Professional<br />
Engineers Ontario (PEO).<br />

Ken McCarthy has over<br />
35 years of experience,<br />
primarily related to coating,<br />
at Polaroid and most<br />
recently at Multilayer <strong>Coating</strong><br />
Technologies LLC, until it<br />
closed in november 2007.<br />
Since then, he has managed a consulting<br />
service, Clean Room <strong>Coating</strong> Solutions.<br />
McCarthy’s areas of expertise include<br />
coating fluid mix preparation and delivery,<br />
coating operations, clean room operations,<br />
coating applicator design, environmental<br />
management and new product development.<br />
In addition, he has extensive experience<br />
in new product translation, from<br />
laboratory through scale-up into full-scale<br />
manufacturing. He has three patents related<br />
to Polaroid product development.<br />
McCarthy received a Ph.D. and MS in<br />
Chemical Engineering from Brooklyn<br />
Polytechnic Institute and a BS in Chemical<br />
Engineering from the University of notre<br />
