APPendix■■lifting enrolments at Certificate III <strong>and</strong> above to 239,525,a rise <strong>of</strong> 11.4% over 2008, with enrolments at Diploma<strong>and</strong> above growing by 16.0%■■■■achieving growth in enrolments by Aboriginal people <strong>of</strong>5.1%, with a rise <strong>of</strong> 7.0% in enrolments at Certificate III<strong>and</strong> aboveincreasing enrolments by school-based apprentices by24.6%.Ms Persson’s strong leadership resulted in an increase <strong>of</strong>6% in commercial revenue; the generation <strong>of</strong> $5.35 millionthrough the TAFE <strong>NSW</strong> National Business Office (up 27%on 2008); <strong>and</strong> 32 new training partnerships with clientssuch as Foster’s Group, Bunnings, Mobil Quix, AirservicesAustralia, Country Energy <strong>and</strong> <strong>NSW</strong> Health. She alsooversaw successful tenders for 10 Better TAFE Facilitiesprojects worth $63.4 million, seven Training InfrastructureInvestment for Tomorrow projects worth $39.9 million<strong>and</strong> four <strong>Education</strong> Investment Fund projects worth$32.5 million under the Commonwealth’s Building the<strong>Education</strong> Revolution.Under Ms Persson’s strategic direction, TAFE Institutessuccessfully implemented new programs <strong>and</strong> innovativestrategies in 2009, which included:■■■■■■■■■■delivering training for job seekers <strong>and</strong> existing workers,under the Productivity Places Program, with a strongfocus on tackling skills shortages <strong>and</strong> supporting theCommonwealth’s Compacts with Young Australians <strong>and</strong>Retrenched Workersoverseeing the Ministerial Taskforce on International<strong>Education</strong>’s work on the quality <strong>of</strong> education <strong>and</strong>training, social inclusion, welfare <strong>and</strong> recruitmentincreasing training for clean energy <strong>and</strong> other greenjobs to help tackle climate change <strong>and</strong> improveenvironmental sustainabilitydeveloping the Virtual Learning Environment Roadmap<strong>and</strong> Framework to position Institutes at the forefront<strong>of</strong> e-Learningdeploying Careers Connect - a job brokerage servicefor students, with facilities for employers to place jobvacancies online.Ms Persson continued to develop the capabilities <strong>of</strong> TAFEstaff via the Building our Future Leadership pilot <strong>and</strong> TAFE<strong>NSW</strong> Workforce Guarantee. In 2009, a sixth capability,‘sustainability’, was added to the guarantee <strong>and</strong> onlineinduction courses, including skills for sustainability, wereintroduced for TAFE staff <strong>and</strong> students.During the reporting period, Ms Persson also made asignificant contribution to the negotiations for the newTAFE teachers’ award.Ms Persson oversaw the provision <strong>of</strong> innovative LinkedSkills programs delivered by the Adult Migrant EnglishService, in partnership with other public <strong>and</strong> private sectoragencies, to prepare newly-arrived migrants <strong>and</strong> refugeesfor work in sectors experiencing skill shortages. She alsomanaged the funding <strong>of</strong> Adult <strong>and</strong> Community <strong>Education</strong>colleges, which delivered 6.1 million hours <strong>of</strong> trainingincluding 4.0 million hours <strong>of</strong> nationally-recognisedvocational training.In addition, Ms Persson is a member <strong>of</strong> the Skills AustraliaBoard which focused on the development <strong>of</strong> bold newapproaches to workforce development <strong>and</strong> governance<strong>of</strong> the national training system in 2009.
