APPendix■■■■45 staff members <strong>of</strong> the Sydney Institute whoparticipated in the Leadership Development Programidentified as being from non-English speakingbackgrounds.49 staff members <strong>of</strong> the Northern Sydney Instituteparticipated in the Selecting TAFE Staff workshops, 33<strong>of</strong> whom were women including four from non-Englishspeaking backgrounds.Staff with a disabilityAchievements for 2009 included the following:■■■■■■■■■■The Human Resources Directorate conducted workshopson Performance Management <strong>and</strong> Development <strong>and</strong> the<strong>NSW</strong> Public Sector Capability Framework for members<strong>of</strong> the Staff with Disabilities Network. Staff membersacross various portfolios <strong>and</strong> their managers participatedin the workshops. Feedback from participants <strong>and</strong> theirmanagers was positive.The Hunter Institute implemented a scholarship programfor the Certificate IV in Training <strong>and</strong> Assessment toattract teachers from under represented groups. One <strong>of</strong>the scholarship holders identified as having a disability.The Western Institute <strong>of</strong>fered an apprenticeship to anAboriginal person with an intellectual disability. This staffmember successfully completed the apprenticeship <strong>and</strong>secured employment with another agency at the end<strong>of</strong> 2009.TAFE Training <strong>and</strong> <strong>Education</strong> Support appointed threestaff members with a disability <strong>and</strong> an additionalfour staff members were from non-Englishspeaking backgrounds.The Technical Equipment Program, a state fundedprogram for the <strong>NSW</strong> public sector, is administeredby the <strong>Department</strong>. This program provides fundingfor additional modification, in the form <strong>of</strong> technicalequipment, for the working environment beyond theemployer’s provision <strong>of</strong> work related adjustments forstaff with a disability.Workplace culture displaying fair <strong>and</strong> inclusiveworkplace practices <strong>and</strong> behavioursThe <strong>Department</strong> continued to develop <strong>and</strong> implementa range <strong>of</strong> policies, resources <strong>and</strong> programs to build afair <strong>and</strong> inclusive workplace culture <strong>and</strong> to positivelymanage its diverse workforce. Some <strong>of</strong> these programswere specifically targeted for managers <strong>and</strong> supervisorsto enhance capabilities for successfully managing <strong>and</strong>supporting diverse teams.Implementation Resources for Workforce Diversity Plan2009-2011The workforce diversity webpage was enhanced to providea central point for information, advice <strong>and</strong> online resourcesto be readily accessed by leaders, managers <strong>and</strong> staff tohelp them to achieve the outcomes <strong>of</strong> the plan <strong>and</strong> toimprove communication <strong>and</strong> networking opportunities.The online resources include the following:■■■■■■■■Implementation GuideThe guide contains information, statistics, success stories<strong>and</strong> suggested actions relating to the four focus areas<strong>of</strong> the plan. The suggested actions are categorised forleaders, managers <strong>and</strong> staff. This emphasises that allstaff across the <strong>Department</strong> have a role to play towardsthe success <strong>of</strong> the plan.Workforce Diversity ChecklistAn interactive checklist can be used by leaders,managers <strong>and</strong> staff to assess their work area’s progresstowards achieving the objectives <strong>of</strong> the plan.Diversity championsDiversity champions are the contact <strong>of</strong>ficers from eachregion, State Office area <strong>and</strong> TAFE Institute who play akey role in partnering with Human Resources Directorateto achieve the outcomes <strong>of</strong> the workforce diversity plan.Staff brochureThe staff brochure provides a snapshot <strong>of</strong> the workforcediversity policy, plan <strong>and</strong> resources in an easy tounderst<strong>and</strong> question <strong>and</strong> answer format.86 APPENDICES
