APPendixKey initiatives during 2009 included:■■■■■■■■■■■■effective implementation of the 2009-2011 RegionalPlan, including achievement of targets for all students inliteracy and numeracy in NAPLAN resultsacknowledgement of outstanding outcomes invocational education in schools at the NSW TrainingAwards, with South Western Sydney being awardedwinner of the NSW VET in Schools Excellence Award2009, and NSW VET in Schools Student of Year 2009as well as recognition as state finalist in the NSW LargeProvider of the Yearopening of Middleton Grange Public School and EldersliePublic School to serve the growing population ineach arealeadership of the introduction of National Partnershipprograms in Literacy and Numeracy, Low SES SchoolCommunities and Teacher Qualityregional leadership capacity building through relievingopportunities for a range of roles including principal andschool education directorfunctional analysis of regional support structures toassist future directions in 2010-2011.Mr Urry provided strategic advice and support for theexpansion of cooperative programs with the Universityof Western Sydney. Deliverables in these programs areexpanding with opportunities provided by NationalPartnerships and consolidation of the work of the SchoolsEngagement Reference Group to foster school-universitypartnerships across the broad spectrum of community,work and educational activities. This initiative expandedto promote a more formal alliance directed towardsinnovation and research.Positive relationships developed between the regionalleadership team and principals were again clearly evidentin comments and rankings from the 2009 Office ofSchools Principals Survey, reflecting the approach ofinvolving principals in the decision making processes ofthe region.112 APPENDICES
