That type ofcable is not recommended, and it could lead to problems maintaininguser security on the host system.Host InitiatedThe host can be commanded to disconnect one of the IBM 7171 ports. This wouldbe used as the normal end to an operating session. Section 3.1.6, "SetupFunctions" on page 3-3 describes the command "Keyboard initiated line drop"5.11 Communications Error HandlingCommunication systems are prone to transmission errors, and there are certaintypes of checks built into the transmission scheme.The errors that are detected by the IBM 7171 are:Parity ErrorFraming ErrorBreak InterruptOverrun ErrorData character received from attached device has wrongparity.Start and stop bits are not correctly matched. (Possible falsestart)The received data has gone to a space (zero) level for morethan one character time. (Could be Break Key wasdepressed. )The received data has overrun the previously received datacharacter before it could be processed.These errors occur in the communication from the terminal to the IBM 7171.When the IBM 7171 detects one of the above errors, it notifies the user by lockingthe keyboard. As the user tries to enter more characters or commands, the IBM7171 will echo back the BEL character instead of the typed character. The usercan acknowledge and clear this error state by entering the "reset key sequence"described in section 3.1.6, "Setup Functions" on page 3-3.Chapter 5. IBM 7171 I/O Interface to Terminals 5-15
