Customizing IBM 7171 Tables4.1 Brief OverviewIn order for the IBM 7171 to communicate with attached ASCII devices, the characteristicsof each individual device and of each communication line must be specified.If the device type is not currently supported or the user wishes to change thecommunication line characteristics, the information must be supplied by the user.Within the IBM 7171, terminal information is organized into two main functionalareas. These are:1. Terminal Definition Tables2. Ports Configuration Data4.1.1 Terminal Definition TableA Terminal Definition Table (TDT) is a list of control character sequences thatdetermine how ASCII terminals are to function. Each functionally different type ofterminal must have its own TDT.The IBM 7171 contains resident TDTs for 16 different terminal types.
