Customizing <strong>IBM</strong> <strong>7171</strong> Tables4.1 Brief OverviewIn order for the <strong>IBM</strong> <strong>7171</strong> to communicate with attached <strong>ASCII</strong> devices, the characteristics<strong>of</strong> each individual device and <strong>of</strong> each communication line must be specified.If the device type is not currently supported or the user wishes to change thecommunication line characteristics, the information must be supplied by the user.Within the <strong>IBM</strong> <strong>7171</strong>, terminal information is organized into two main functionalareas. <strong>The</strong>se are:1. Terminal Definition Tables2. Ports Configuration Data4.1.1 Terminal Definition TableA Terminal Definition Table (TDT) is a list <strong>of</strong> control character sequences thatdetermine how <strong>ASCII</strong> terminals are to function.
