IBM 7171 Support Utility for Modifying Terminal TablesC.l IBM 7171 Support Utility IntroductionIn order for the the IBM 7171 to communicate with attached ASCII devices, thecharacteristics of each individual device and the line to which the device is attachedmust be defined. If the device type is a native terminal definition, then the usermust supply the terminal definition. The user will also need to define the line characteristicsfor each communication line, port, if the default port configuration is notappropriate for the application. The Support Utility has been provided to performthese functions. A description of the data structures used in Nonvolitile-RAM,NV-RAM can be found in Chapter 4, "Customizing IBM 7171 Tables" onpage 4-1.The Support Utility allows users to:1. Customize device types off line2. Specify port configurations off line3. Write blocks of NV-RAM4. Copy blocks of NV-RAM5. Generate new terminal definition tables off line6. Modify existing terminal definition tables off line7. Store terminal definition tables on a PC DOS diskette or disk.Two different tools are provided for maintaining terminal tables.• 7171.COM, which provides:Menu driven editing capability for generating or modifying terminal andport tablesReading and writing of Blocks of NV -RAM.Appendix C.
