Much of the province’s educationalresources, urban amenities, industrial infrastructure, e<strong>co</strong>nomic base, and wealthare <strong>co</strong>ncentrated in Nelson Mandela Bay. Manufacturing is expandingthroughout the region and within NMB, but there is a dangerous dependence onthe automotive sector. E<strong>co</strong>nomic Development planning has focused ondiversifying the e<strong>co</strong>nomic base away from automotive manufacturing whilstsimultaneously assisting suppliers and SMMEs engaged in that sector.Analysis of the key strategies against the <strong>co</strong>mpetitive strengths ande<strong>co</strong>nomic base of the NMB area and the province revealed the followingstrengths and weaknesses.103 Algernon Road, Norwood (Johannesburg).
