AZERBAIJANThe ICRC has been working in Azerbaijan since 1992 in relationto the Nagorny Karabakh armed conflict. It focuses on the issueof missing persons and on detainees held for conflict-related orsecurity reasons, and works to protect and assist communitiesliving along the Line of Contact and the international borderwith Armenia. It promotes implementation of IHL and itsintegration into armed and security forces’ training and intoacademic curricula. The ICRC works in partnership with andaims to help strengthen the capacities of the Red CrescentSociety of Azerbaijan.YEARLY RESULTLevel of achievement of ICRC yearly objectives/plans of actionHIGHKEY RESULTS/CONSTRAINTSIn 2013:. with the ICRC acting as a neutral intermediary, two civilianinternees were voluntarily repatriated to Armenia and the remainsof one mine victim were recovered along the international borderwith Armenia. through National Society, British Red Cross and ICRC support,vulnerable communities benefited from livelihood assistance andinfrastructure repairs, some of which took place under ICRCobtainedtemporary security agreements.
