NEW YORKThe multiple tasks and activities of the UN often haveimplications of a humanitarian nature. Operating since 1983, theICRC delegation to the UN serves as a support and a liaison forICRC operational and legal initiatives. The delegation conveysthe ICRC’s viewpoint, keeps abreast of trends and developmentsrelating to humanitarian issues and promotes IHL.KEY RESULTS/CONSTRAINTSIn <strong>2013</strong>:. the UN General Assembly adopted the Arms Trade Treaty, withthe ICRC providing input on IHL-related language and on theconsideration of various other humanitarian issues. the UN secretary-general’s <strong>report</strong>s and UN General Assemblyresolutions referred to the goals of the Health Care in Dangerproject, while including ICRC recommendations on humanitarianaccess and other protection-related goals. key actors at the 68th session of the General Assembly considered –in view of ICRC statements – IHL with regard to UN priorities suchas humanitarian coordination/access, and IDPs, women and childrenin conflict.
