WESTERN BALKANS (regional)COVERING: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo*, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro, SerbiaThe ICRC has been working in the countries covered since theearly 1990s. The organization strives to respond to the needsremaining from armed conflicts in the region. In particular, itseeks to help clarify the fate of missing persons and to addressthe needs of their families. Throughout the region, the ICRCvisits detainees, works with the authorities and civil society topromote IHL and supports the development of the NationalSocieties.KEY RESULTS/CONSTRAINTSIn <strong>2013</strong>:. the region’s national authorities continued to make efforts to clarifythe fate of persons missing in relation to past conflicts, leading tothe resolution of 649 cases in Bosnia and Herzegovina, for instance. Kosovo and Serbia made progress in clarifying the fate of personsmissing in relation to the conflict in Kosovo, identifying 45 sets ofhuman remains and confirming the location of a gravesite in Serbia,with ICRC support.
