ANALYSIS OF UNFAIR LABOR PRACTICE CASES BY UNIONSFILING CHARGESOf the 7,132 unfair labor practice cases on the docket during thefiscal year ending June 30, 1939, 2,770 were filed by unions affiliatedwith the American Federation of <strong>Labor</strong>, 3,442 cases by affiliates ofthe Congress of Industrial Organizations, 286 cases by unaffiliatedunions, and 634 cases by individuals. The <strong>Board</strong> closed 62 percentof the A. F. of L. unfair labor practice cases and 55.9 percent ofthe C. I. 0. unfair labor practice cases on the docket during this period.A comparison of the methods by which the A. F. of L. cases andthe C. • I. 0. cases were disposed of reveals that the <strong>Board</strong> securedsettlements before formal action was instituted in 51.4 percent ofthe A. F. of L. cases and in 47.0 percent of the C. I. 0. cases.
