- Let's talk about the serial, "Joanne's Story," episode twelve…<br />
The students should know the story pretty well, so don't slow down unless it's really necessary.<br />
In addition to being a comprehension exercise, this helps the student to follow the story and provides clues<br />
for future developments.<br />
Most of the unfamiliar vocabulary in this exercise (in SMALL CAPS) is passive in the serial itself.<br />
Paolo Condotti, the Italian secret service agent, and Jason Roberts, the British consul in Puerto<br />
Cabezas (pron: cabésas = South American), have a secret meeting with Felipe Barca's girlfriend Marta<br />
Alvárez. Marta has a lot of information about Felipe's activities…<br />
Do you remember the time of this meeting?<br />
Six o'clock.<br />
And the place?<br />
Marta BEGINS to tell her story. Where did she meet Felipe…<br />
in Colombia or in Costa Rica?<br />
Did she think he was good-looking?<br />
Did she know he had a lot of money?<br />
Did they go sailing on his boat or her boat?<br />
Did they go sailing in the Mediterranean?<br />
Did they BECOME LOVERS, or just good friends?<br />

Did Marta think Felipe was an EMERALD DEALER, or an<br />

One day, when Felipe wasn't at the villa, a man DELIVERED<br />
some PACKAGES. Marta opened one. What was in it?<br />
Marta asked Felipe what his real business was in Colombia.<br />
He said it was his business to make lots of…what?<br />
