- Here's a little "story" for you…<br />

(a) Read the "story", slightly emphasising the underlined words.<br />

(b) Read again, skipping the underlined words. Students can fill in the gaps individually or in chorus.<br />

(c) Continue in this way, prompting less and less each time, until they can recite it by themselves.<br />

Berlin is the capital of Germany. It's a beautiful city. Eric is from Berlin. He's a teacher. He's a good<br />

teacher.<br />

- Here's another one…<br />

Rome is the capital of Italy. It's a beautiful city. Gianni's from Rome.<br />

He's a pilot. He's a good pilot.<br />

- And another…<br />

London is the capital of Britain. It's a beautiful city. Margaret's from London. She's a doctor.<br />

She's a good doctor.<br />

- Now you try...<br />

Prompt city, name and profession. In a class, each student can do one complete item.<br />

Paris … Jacques … engineer<br />

Madrid …Pedro … artist<br />

Ottawa … Silvia … architect<br />

Vienna … Helga … student<br />

Washington … Tom … detective<br />

Pretoria … Alexa … writer<br />

Possible substitutes for "beautiful": nice, interesting, wonderful…<br />

Possible follow-up: ask questions about the above characters. (But remember that "What does he do?"<br />

doesn't come up until Lesson 9…)<br />
