- Where is the Parthenon…?
Revision of past tense. This is reminiscent of a Gapfill exercise in OP12 ("Cathy went to Greece…")
(1) Elicit names of typical tourist destinations:
Where is the Parthenon?
Where is the Brandenburg Gate?
Where is the Statue of Liberty… and the Museum of Modern Art?
Where is the Eiffel Tower… and the Louvre Museum?
Where is the Blue Mosque… and Santa Sophia?
Where is Buckingham Palace… and the British Museum?
Where is the Church of the Sagrada Familia… and Las Ramblas?

(2) Aural Comprehension: stories of imaginary trips using names of students. (If you use the sentence "He
went with […]", get the student himself (or the other students) to provide the name of the travelling
companion (spouse, parent, child, sibling, classmate, famous person). Then all the pronouns become "they".
Plus, there's an extra comprehension question: "Who did [he/she] go with?" If you know the students well,
you can tell the most (or least!) likely story for each of them. Should be fun.)
[Marco] went to England last year. He spent a week in London. (He went with […].) He (They) saw the
British Museum, and Buckingham Palace, and Westminster Abbey, and Big Ben. He (They) always ate
in Italian restaurants, or McDonald's, and he (they) had a wonderful time. The weather wasn't bad but
he (they) had a little rain the first two days.
Questions: So, where did [Marco] go? / When did he go there? / (Who did he go with?) / How long
did he (they) stay in London? / What did he (they) see? / What did he (they) eat? / Do you think
[Marco] likes English food? / Do you think he missed Italy? / Did he have a good time? / What was
the weather like?

[Francesca] went to Spain last year. She spent a week in Barcelona. (She went with […].) She (They)
saw the Church of the Sagrada Familia, and Las Ramblas, and the Picasso Museum. She (They) went
dancing in a different discotheque every night, and she (they) had a wonderful time. The weather was
perfect, but it was a little hot.
Questions: So, where did [Francesca] go? / When did she go there? / (Who did she go with?) / How
long did she (they) stay in Barcelona? / What did she (they) see? / What did she (they) do every night?
