OP 15 - AURAL COMPREHENSION - Doug and Melanie (2)
- Here's a little story for you…
Based on a conversation on PCB 15. The further adventures of Doug and Melanie, the Scottish teenagers,
and their blooming relationship. See OP 8.
(245 words; about 1'40")
Do you remember Doug Macdonald and Melanie Mackinlay…?
See how much they recall from the PCB conversations, and from the AURAL COMPREHENSION in OP 8.
Doug and Melanie go to the cinema every Sunday evening. The cinema - there's only one in the village,
and they go there every week. There's one show on Friday, and two shows on Saturday and Sunday.
On Monday morning, Doug always phones Melanie, to talk about the film they saw the night before.
ACTUALLY, he phones her every morning, at eight o'clock, to tell her how much he misses her. "I really
miss you, Melanie!" An hour later, he sees her at school, but he can't wait UNTIL then. So he calls her at
home.
At school, Melanie is a very good student, a MODEL student. Doug is not so good, because he doesn't
CONCENTRATE on his lessons. He spends the day thinking about Melanie. Then, after school, he goes to
Melanie's house, and she helps him with his HOMEWORK.
At six o'clock, when it's time to go home for dinner, Doug is very UNHAPPY. He's MISERABLE. He wants
to CRY. Just IMAGINE! No more Melanie for the next fifteen hours! How can he live without her?
Of course he phones her after dinner, and they talk for a couple of hours. I don't know what they talk
about, but… Well, you know!
Now, Melanie likes Doug, and she likes talking to him, but sometimes he's a bit OBSESSIVE. So she's
happy when Doug goes out sailing with his father at the weekend, and she can have some time to
HERSELF.
Doug says he wants to buy a mobile phone, but Melanie doesn't think that's a very good idea.
- And now, some questions…
