OP 25 - GAPFILL - Ladies and Gentlemen…
-
This is straight out of the book: GN 25.7. The idea is to give examples of false friends:
"cliente" client customer
"attualmente" actually at the moment
"argomento" argument subject
"società" society company
"discussione" discussion argument
Normal Gapfill procedure: several run-throughs, leaving out more and more each time. The first
time can be somewhat slow / emphatic / deliberate; then try speeding up a little, each time you
repeat it .
As usual, some vocabulary (in SMALL CAPS) is passive, but much of this text also appears in CF 25/4.
Suggestion: listen to the way the speaker - a woman - does it on the Lesson Cassette.
Ladies and Gentlemen, the title of my paper is: "The Customer is Always Right". At the moment, this
is a very important subject that everyone has strong views about, ESPECIALLY in big companies. So I'm
not going to say very much. Keep this in MIND - only this: listen to their opinions. Instead of having an
ARGUMENT, have a friendly DISCUSSION. That's all I have to say. Thank you for your attention.
Possible segue:
OP 25 - CLOSE-UP - Present perfect with "already"
- Let's practise using "already"…
"Already" with the present perfect is in GN 24.2. This also revises the forms of irregular verbs.
Note that "already" can also come in final position. This is mentioned in GN 24.2
IMAGINE that you've got some information that I don't know about…
When is John leaving for Canada?
What time is Patricia arriving?
Has Frank finally decided to sell his old car?
I think it's time to do your Written Test now…
Well, then, we can do the Oral Test…
In that case, I'd like to see your Homework Book…
By the way, when are you going to do your Lex 20?
Let's IMAGINE some different situations…
When are you going to call the manager?
When are you going to write a letter to the President?
When are you going to do the dishes?
Remember to take your car to the mechanic.
Remember to take those books back to the library…
Please let me know when the postman comes…
Please let me know when Ms Ellis is going home. (
