For example, insome countries research institutes are part ofuniversities; in other countries, they are not.Some countries have relatively few but largeuniversities; others have many, but smaller ones.Also, some universities have a single link tothe NREN; in other cases, separate faculties orschools that form part of a university, but aregeographically at different locations, have theirown connections. Note that some NRENs haveprovided the data for entire universities for 2003but for separate connections in 2006; in othercases, it has been the reverse.In this section, information is provided for 2003and 2006, showing the evolution over the pastyears. The 2006 information is also published intable format on the Compendium website.Note that the Polish information from 2006 wasextrapolated from data gathered from fieen outof the twenty-one MANs that form the PIONIERnetwork.28
