TERENA compendium of national research and education networks in europe/users/clients2.5 Percentage of SchoolsConnected Through the NRENThe following graphs provide information aboutthe percentage of all secondary and primaryschools that are connected through the NREN,according to estimates supplied by the NRENs.Note that aside from the connection itself,also the connection method and the type ofservices offered are important. Thus, in theUK, schools are not connected directly to theNREN but via the regional broadband consortiaor local authorities who use the NREN as theirbackbone. Schools receive a reduced set ofservices. The percentage of connectionsis expected to rise sharply in some countries(e.g., Italy) because implementation ofschemes to connect most or all schools hasjust started.
