Onyx-RAD Professional WorkstationUser ManualWelcome to Onyx-RADThe Onyx-RAD suite of Telemedicine PACS applicationswas developed specifically to handle the DICOM protocol,for both transmitting and viewing DICOM images and dataelements. The applications were developed for networkedPCs running Microsoft Windows NT and 2000, and offer aninterface that users find to be quite intuitive after some initiallearning.The Onyx-RAD applications deal with all manner of DICOMimages and modalities, including MR, CT, CR, US, andmany others. These images can be viewed, manipulated,annotated, transmitted to other facilities, printed, animatedand stored using the Onyx-RAD suite.This manual is concerned primarily with the Onyx-RADProfessional Workstation application, though other parts ofthe suite will be explored as necessary (e.g., administratorconfiguration tasks.)Page 8
Easy To UseOnyx-RAD is designed to combine a multitude of powerfultools with an intuitive and configurable interface.With any software package, there is an initial learning curvethat must be surmounted. Trial and error lead tofamiliarization and efficiency. First-time users of MicrosoftWindows often become accustomed to it within a week ortwo of regular use.Onyx-RAD builds on this by using menus, shortcuts, andoperations which are similar to most other Windowsprograms, thus decreasing the learning curve andfamiliarization period. The Onyx-RAD applications makeextensive use of toolbars, context menus, drag-and-dropfunctionality, menus, and shortcut keys to provide evenmore efficiency to your busy schedule.The computer’s mouse has two buttons (some newermodels also have a third, the “middle” button, and/or ascroll-wheel in the center.) The behavior of these twobuttons, referred to as the “left” and “right” buttons,respectively, is consistent throughout Onyx-RAD software.The right mouse button: a single click with this buttonreveals a pop-up menu containing functions and optionspertinent to the area of the software you are currently using.“Dragging” (hold the button down and move the mouse) thisbutton is used primarily for functions like windowing animage while you view it.The left mouse button: Almost all other tasks are performedwith this button. A single click is used extensivelythroughout the software to select an item (e.g., select astudy in the Study Listing, select an image in the ImageViewer, select a recipient on the “Send To” dialog, etc.) oractivate a feature (e.g., clicking the appropriate toolbarbutton to activate the Zoom tool, clicking the “OK” button ona dialog in response to a question, etc.) Dragging with theOnyx-RAD is a registered trademark of Viztek, Inc. © 1995-2002 Page 9
