Apractical example of this is with the open and closed hi-hatvoices. When you play an actual hi-hat—first open, thenclosed—the closed hi-hat naturally mutes the ringing opensound. Likewise, when the open and closed hi-hat voices areassigned to the same alternate group, the playing of onemutes the other.* This setting has no affect on two-layer input sources.
