PKI Standards
eToken supports the major PKI standards used by today’s
mainstream applications.
CAPI
The Microsoft Cryptographic Application Programming Interface
(CryptoAPI or CAPI) standard supports the development of
applications that include functions such as secure certificate, key and
data storage, authentication, encryption, signature and verification.
CAPI is used for certificate and key management by Microsoft
products, such as Internet Explorer, Outlook and Outlook Express.
eToken fully supports the Microsoft CAPI standard, using a
Cryptographic Service Provider (CSP) developed by Aladdin. The
eToken CSP, named eToken Base Cryptographic Provider, enables
eToken integration with CAPI-based applications, and is installed
with the eToken Runtime Environment (RTE).
PKCS #11
The PKCS #11 standard also specifies an application programming
interface (API) for devices such as eToken, which hold cryptographic
information and may perform cryptographic functions. Applications
based on PKCS #11 include, for example, Netscape and Baltimore
MailSecure.
The eToken R2 fully supports the PKCS #11 standard. Please check
with your supplier regarding PKCS #11 support for the eToken
PRO. For more information about the two eToken models, see “eToken
Models”, on page 9.
