ENGINE ADJUSTMENTSNOTE: <strong>WESTERBEKE</strong> recommends that the following engineadjustments be performed by a competent engine mechanic.The information below is provided to assist the mechanic.TIMING BELT INSPECTION AND REPLACEMENTTiming Belt Removal5. Remove the timing belt.NOTE: If the timing belt is to be reused, draw an arrow onthe belt back to indicate the direction o/rotation (clock­wise).it. CAUTION: Water or oil on the timing belt severelyreduces the service life of the belt. Keep the timingbelt sprocket and tensioner free of oil and grease.These parts should never be cleaned. Replace if serioously contaminated with dirt or oil. If oil is evident onthese parts, check the front case, oil pump oil seals,and camshaft oil seals for a possible oil leak.1. Turn the crankshaft c10ckwise to align the timing mark onthe camshaft sprocket and timing belt rear cover.NOTE: always turn the crankshaft clockwise.TIMING MARKCamshaft Sprocket Removal1. Remove the bolt without turning the camshaft.(2. Remove the plug on the left surface of the cylinder blockand insert a rod with a diameter of8mm (0.31in.) to lockthe counterbalance shaft.NOTE: Be sure to use an inserting rod with a diameter of8mm (0.31 in.).65 MM (2.6 IN) __ . Move the timing belt tensioner toward the water pump,and temporarily tighten the nut to hold the tensioner inthat position.TIMING BELT TENSIONEROil Pump Sprocket Flange Nut Removal.1. Remove the plug from the left side of the cylinder block.2. Insert an 8 mm (0.31 in.) diameter round bar to lock thecounterbalance shaft.3.
