ENGINE ADJUSTMENTSNOTE: WESTERBEKE recommends that the following engineadjustments be performed by a competent engine mechanic. The information below is provided to assist the mechanic.Tensioner Spring/Timing Tensioner Installation1. Install the tensioncr spring and timing belt tensioner.2. Hook the tensioner spring onto the bend of the timing belttensioner bracket and the stopper pin on the cylinderblock.3. Move the timing belt tensioner as close as possible to thewater pump; temporarily tighten the tensioner nut.TIMING BELTAt this time, check that the moveable range of teeth Onthe oil pump sprocket is according to specifications.Standard value: 4 to 5 teeth in forward direction1 to 2 teeth in reverse directionOIL PUMPSPROCKETREVERSETENSIONERTiming Belt Installation1. Align the triangular marking on the camshaft sprocketwith a marking on the timing belt rear cover.2. Align the notch in the crankshaft sprocket flange withthe marking on the front casco3. Align the triangular marking on the oil pump sprocketwith the marking on the front case, and then insert a 65mm (2.56 in.) or longer, 8 mm (0.31 in.) diameterround bar into the plug hole in the left side of thecylinder blOC~k~.~;;;~~~_~MARKING ONTIMING BELT ~REAR COVERTRIANGULARMARKING ONCAMSHAFTSPROCKET4. If the movable range of the oil pump sprocket exceedsthe specified range, correct as follows:a. Pull out the round bar from the plug hole in the leftside of the cylinder block.b. Turn the oil pump sprocket one turn at a time untilthe round bar can again be inserted.c. Check that the movable range of the oil pumpsprocket is in the specified value.S. Set the timing belt over the crankshaft sprocket andthen over the oil pump sprocket and camshaft sprocket,in that order.NOTE: Ensure that the tension side of the timing belt isnot slack. Keep the round bar inserted until the timingbelt has been placed. After this step, be sure to removethe round bar.6. Apply counterclockwise force to the camshaft sprocketto make the belt taut on the tension side, and makesure that all timing marks are lined up.CAMSHAFTSPROCKETTENSION SIDETIMING BELTTENSIONER7.
