Other UN organizationsThe LDCF was established to assist Least Developed Country Parties(LDCs) in carrying out the preparation and implementation of nationaladaptation programmes of action (NAPAs).The rationale for establishing the LDCF rests on the low capacity andhigh vulnerability of LDCs, which renders them in need of immediate andurgent support to start adapting to current and projected adverse effectsof climate change. Water.Multilateral banksThe Alliance will help to ensure that poor developing countries mostvulnerable to climate change, in particular the LDCs and SIDS, increasetheir capacities to adapt to the effects of climate change by fosteringeffective dialogue and cooperation on climate change. On the climatechange adaptation front, the alliance aims to help developing countriesimprove their knowledge base on the effects of climate change and todevelop and implement adaptation strategies.Proposed areas of intervention include:• Supporting the development of adaptation action plans in vulnerablecountries other than LDCs, through technical assistance, capacitysupport and facilitation of cooperation between stakeholders• Supporting the implementation of adaptation action plans in LDCs andSIDS effectively committed to taking measures to respond to climatechange• Financing pilot adaptation projects focussing on the water andagricultural sectors, as well as on sustainable management of naturalresources• Supporting international collaborative research on the impacts ofclimate change in developing countries and regions, as well as on theidentification and design of innovative adaptation solutions.Links to furtherinformationhttp://unfccc.int/adaptation/implementing_adaptation/adaptation_funding_interface/items/4633.php; http://www.gcca.eu/pages/1_2-Home.html159
