LODGESDELBURNE <strong>ELK</strong>S LODGE NO. 206On November 7, 2011, some 40 members and guests were in attendance when Grand Exalted RulerBrother Jerry Wernicke visited Delburne <strong>Elks</strong> Lodge.District Deputy, Brother Phil Johnson serenaded those in attendance andBrother Jerry did some vocalizing.Delburne <strong>Elks</strong> Lodge have a 15passenger van for use as aCommunity Bus. They have scheduledtrips twice a month to RedDeer for medical appointments andshopping with one <strong>of</strong> the Lodgemembers driving. The van is alsorented out on many different occasionsand trips throughout Albertaand occasionally into Montana forshopping excursions. PGERBrother Bob Manning stands beside the van in the storage building. This building also houses 3 Grills and 1BBQ that are owned and used by the Lodge and available for rent within the community.In 1973, Delburne <strong>Elks</strong> applied to the government for housing and theresult was a 12 suite Seniors residence that opened in 1976, owned by theGov’t <strong>of</strong> Alberta, and managed by a Board consisting <strong>of</strong> 5 Elk members, 1Village Councelor and one member “at large” from the Village.A cheque was presented to Grand Exalted RulerGerry Wernicke by Exalted Ruler Roy Jamieson andPGER Bob Manning.DECRA Grounds - Another community projectinitiated and funded by Delburne <strong>Elks</strong> No. 206.<strong>Elks</strong> Camp Ground at Delburne GolfCourse - Adjacent to Fawn Meadows Golfand Country Club and managed by thegolf course - Delburne <strong>Elks</strong> applied forgovernment grants to develop the campground.2011 was the 82nd consecutive year that the Delburne Lodge has held <strong>Canada</strong> Day Celebrations (FlagDay) on July 1st. Events held on July 1st include a Pancake Breakfast, large Parade, Ball Tournament,Kid’s Races, Gymkhana, Vintage Tractor Pull, Car Show and Food Concessions. There is also a BeefSupper. If July 1st falls on a Friday or Saturday, a Cabaret and Dance is held. This is a major undertakingand other organizations assist the Lodge with certain functions <strong>of</strong> the day.50
