The <strong>Elks</strong> donated theentire proceeds <strong>of</strong> $16,455.00 from this year’s talent show and presented$2,000.00 from the Manitoba <strong>Elks</strong> Foundation to help payfor the new $80,000.00 structure. The previous equipment wasremoved as it was judged unsafe and students had been withoutone for a year. The new playground structure is being used nonstop,both by students and other children in the community.“You won - it’s your choice!” That’s what the Riverton <strong>Elks</strong> toldDerek Johnson after they drew ticket #82 in their Winner’s ChoiceDraw and woke him up to tell him. Unfortunately he would not believethe caller, his brother Mitch, so it took another three people to convincehim to come down to the <strong>Elks</strong> Lodge. Derek chose the GMC Sierra4X4 from Viking Motors, upgraded it to fit his family, and this is theresult. Other choices in Winner’s Choice included a Forester Pontoonboat, a Kubota tractor, a deluxe hot tub package, a Chevy Cruze, aCan-Am Outlander + Ski-Doo Renegade and a Wildwood 26 ft. Trailer. Which would you have chosen?Doug Anderson, Exalted Ruler <strong>of</strong> the Riverton <strong>Elks</strong>, said Winner’s Choice is one <strong>of</strong> their annual fundraisers –this one for their senior’s housing project. The <strong>Elks</strong> hold two major raffles each year: Winner’s Choice with 399tickets at $100.00 and one for a Harley Davidson, 385 tickets at $100.00.Two weeks later, Derek is still saying “I can’t believe it - I’ve never won anything in my life!” His brother Mitch,who sold him the winning ticket, is no longer saying “Now Derek will have to pay me for the ticket.”62
