You willbe invited to attend an interview at which you willundertake a practical task.THE COURSEThis course suits students who are looking to enterthis popular vocational area and learn the basicsof hairdressing. You should have good hand andeye co-ordination and be aware and interested inthe changing fashions in hairdressing. Ideally youshould be friendly, get on with all kinds of peopleand be able to communicate with clients. Above allyou should be enthusiastic, willing to learn and wellpresented.This course will prepare you for the Hairdressingindustry. As part of your timetable you will spend oneevening a week working in a <strong>College</strong> salon alongsideLevel 3 hairdressing students. Subjects studiedinclude:• Following Health and Safety in the salon• Introduction to the Hair and Beauty sector• Working with others• Presenting a professional image in the salon• Shampoo and conditioning• Colour hair using temporary colour• Styling women’s hair• <strong>The</strong> art of dressing hair• Creating a hair and beauty image• Salon reception duties• Create and maintain retail displays in the salon• Hair plaiting• Promote products and services to clients in thesalonYou will also study Functional Skills in English andmathematics.ADDITIONAL INFORMATIONYou will need to have access to a camera (disposableif necessary) to produce evidence of your work foryour portfolio.NEXT STEPYou can progress to a VRQ2 in Ladies Hairdressing, orto employment or work-based training.LEVEL 2 DIPLOMA IN LADIESHAIRDRESSINGBASED AT: NORTH ROAD, POOLE &LANSDOWNE, BOURNEMOUTHCOURSE LEVEL: LEVEL 2ENTRY REQUIREMENTSA minimum of 3 GCSEs at grades A* - D or Level1 Hairdressing qualification or at least one year’sexperience full time in a salon. At your interview youwill be asked to undertake a practical assessment.THE COURSEThis course is designed to provide you with a goodknowledge of hairdressing and enable you to develop asound awareness of the industry. Level 2 is the minimumrequired by the industry to work as a junior stylist.This programme places a strong emphasis ontechnical skills.
