Your tutors will be able torecommend certain careers as you progress throughthe course.BTEC LEVEL 3 EXTENDED DIPLOMA INPRODUCTION ARTSBASED AT: CONSTITUTION HILL, POOLECOURSE LEVEL: LEVEL 3ENTRY REQUIREMENTSYou will need a minimum of 4 GCSEs grades A* - C orthe BTEC First Diploma in Performing Arts, and relatedwork experience. You will be invited to attend aninterview and should demonstrate a genuine interestin production arts and backstage work. Exceptions canbe made for mature students or those with previouspractical experience.THE COURSEDo you have an interest in the theatre or the Arts? Areyou motivated, prepared to work hard and be open tonew ways of learning? This nationally recognised Level3 qualification aims to prepare you in the practical skillsand understanding required for a career in technicalproduction for performance.<strong>The</strong> course covers the following units: Lighting, SoundSkills, Production Project, Set Construction, StageManagement, and Costume and Set Design.During the course you will learn the necessary skillsand knowledge required to work within a theatricalenvironment. You will become confident in for examplepreparing props and set designs, how stages arelit for different types of productions and the theoryrequired to stage a successful production. As you willbe involved in live performances your skill of working todeadlines will be enhanced, as will be the importanceof teamwork. <strong>The</strong> skills learnt on this course will helpyou in a variety of careers within television, film ortheatre work, either performance related or technical.Employment within the industry not only depends ontalent but on also a sense of determination to succeed.You might consider working voluntarily for a localtheatre for example to gain some valuable experienceand make important contacts.ADDITIONAL INFORMATIONYou will work on shows in the Jellicoe <strong>The</strong>atre which isa fully functioning venue equipped with lighting, soundand AV equipment to industry standards. We mount22 productions a year with a variety of shows includingMusicals, Dance Shows, Classical and ContemporaryPlays, many of which you will be involved with orattend as part of your course.PRE-VOCATIONAL PROGRAMMEBASED AT: NORTH ROAD, POOLEENTRY REQUIREMENTS<strong>The</strong>re are no formal entry requirements. Admission isby interview.THE COURSE<strong>The</strong> Pre-Vocational Programme is a one year coursewith possible progression to a second and third yearaimed at school leavers with moderate learningdifficulties or additional needs. <strong>The</strong> course aims toenable students to achieve their maximum potentialand prepare them for the next step in their careerprogression.<strong>The</strong> course structure is negotiated with eachindividual student depending on their needs andinterests but is based around a core structure whichincludes Functional Skills, Life Skills, InformationTechnology, Cooking and Enrichment. Students aresupported through individual and group tutorials.Students can also choose vocational options fromthose on offer based upon their primary learninggoal. Depending on availability vocational optionson offer include: Art, Beauty <strong>The</strong>rapy, Care, Catering,Construction, Dance, Floristry, Hairdressing,Horticulture, Retail, Sandwich Scheme, Sports Studies,Technical Skills and Woodwork.ADDITIONAL INFORMATIONA residential experience may be offered annually.Teaching takes place in small groups. LearningSupport Assistants are available to provide furthersupport.
