62Hairdressingfull time prospectus 2013/14Hairdressingfull time prospectus 2013/1463LEVEL 3 DIPLOMA IN LADIESHAIRDRESSING (19+)BASED AT: LANSDOWNE, BOURNEMOUTHCOURSE LEVEL: LEVEL 3ENTRY REQUIREMENTSNVQ Level 2 or VRQ Level 2 Hairdressing is requiredto progress to this course. You will be required toattend an interview and have a genuine interest inhairdressing. You should be medically able to take upemployment in this vocational area.THE COURSE<strong>The</strong> course is designed for those who wish to gaina Level 3 Hairdressing qualification on a full timebasis and are over the age of 19. <strong>The</strong> course willsupport experience and knowledge gained within theindustry whilst enabling the student to become a fullyqualified stylist.You will develop your practical and theoreticalskills in <strong>The</strong> <strong>College</strong> salons which provide a realisticenvironment. You will study the following Mandatoryand Optional Units.You will study 7 core and technical units:<strong>The</strong>se are:• Consult and advise the client on hairdressingservices• Colour hair to create a variety of looks• Cut hair to create a variety of looks• Monitor and maintain Health & Safety in thesalon• Promote products and services to clients in thesalon• Style hair using a variety of techniques• Working in HairdressingYou will also study 2 optional units chosen from:• Contribute to the effective running of thebusiness• Creative hairdressing design skills• Perming hair to create a variety of looksADDITIONAL INFORMATION<strong>The</strong> practical areas of the course will take place duringa six hour commercial salon session in our salon,Flaunt, that is open to the public. Additional trainingwill take place in the training salons.NEXT STEPYou can progress onto employment or higher levelstudy.LEVEL 2 DIPLOMA IN HAIR & MEDIAMAKE-UPBASED AT: LANSDOWNE, BOURNEMOUTHCOURSE LEVEL: LEVEL 2ENTRY REQUIREMENTSA minimum of 3 GCSEs at grades A* - D or successfulcompletion of a related Level 1 course. At interview,applicants are asked to undertake a practicalassessment and demonstrate an active interest inhairdressing.THE COURSEAre you interested in becoming a hairdresser or amake-up artist? This course will prepare you to Level2 in order for you to progress the following year toLevel 3 Hairdressing or Level 3 Diploma in <strong>The</strong>atrical,Special Effects and Hair and Media Make-up<strong>The</strong> course consists of Mandatory and Optional units.For students progressing from Level 2 Diploma inHairdressing 14-16 from school, it would be advisableto choose cutting and colouring units as part of theoptions.Mandatory Units• <strong>The</strong> art of dressing hair• <strong>The</strong> art of photographic make-up• Apply make-up• Client care and communication in beauty-relatedindustries• Follow Health and Safety practice in the salon• Create an image based on a theme within thehair and beauty sector.Optional Group - from this group you’ll need to covera minimum of 4 units and earn a minimum of 28credits• Client consultation for hair services• Cut women’s hair• Colour and lighten hair• Shampoo and condition the hair and scalp• Perm and neutralise hair• Nail art application• <strong>The</strong>med face paintingYou will also study functional skills, English andmathematics, during your programme.ADDITIONAL INFORMATIONA camera will be required (disposable if necessary) torecord your work for your portfolio.NEXT STEPAfter this course you will be advised to progressto Level 3 Diploma in Ladies Hairdressing or Level3 Diploma in <strong>The</strong>atrical, Special Effects and Mediamake-up which would prepare you for a career withtelevision or theatre companies or as senior stylist.<strong>The</strong> Level 2 qualification will qualify you to work as ajunior stylist or make-up artist.LEVEL 3 DIPLOMA THEATRICAL ,SPECIALEFFECTS AND MEDIA MAKE UP/HAIRBASED AT: LANSDOWNE, BOURNEMOUTHCOURSE LEVEL: LEVEL 3ENTRY REQUIREMENTSLevel 2 Hairdressing or Level 2 Beauty <strong>The</strong>rapy.Applications are welcomed from candidates who havesuccessfully completed a Level 2 qualification in Artand Design or related discipline, or who have AS/ALevel qualifications including Art or a design-basedsubject.
