This is a full time twoyear vocational course, equivalent to 3 A Levels, whichincorporates the Subsidiary Diploma in Sport (1 yearoption, equivalent to one A Level).You will study a range of units from: AssessingRisk in Sport, Fitness Testing, Fitness Training andProgramming, Principles of Anatomy and Physiology inSport, <strong>The</strong> Physiology of Fitness, Sports Development,Sports Coaching, Analysis of Sports Performance,Exercise, Health and Lifestyle, Instructing PhysicalActivity and Exercise, Leadership in Sport, PracticalSport, Sports Injuries, Sports Nutrition, Outdoorand Adventurous Activities, Psychology for SportsPerformance and Applied Exercise Physiology.You will gain confidence by developing skills inindependent learning, communication and IT which arehighly valued by employers. <strong>The</strong> opportunity to applylearning in practical and realistic contexts will also beprovided.You will have a choice of practical sessions to playcompetitive sport or to develop your coaching, fitnessor practical skills.ADDITIONAL INFORMATIONYou will have the opportunity to participate in visits tosports clubs, receive guest speakers and go on trips.Also you will have the opportunity to achieve a First Aidqualification and NGB coaching awards as available.You will also get the opportunity to developemployability skills, go on a work experience placementand receive careers advice as well as help withuniversity applications.Students on this course have the option to study A levelPE, providing they meet the additional entry criteria.NEXT STEPYou could progress to a variety of higher educationcourses in sport or sport related disciplines.Alternatively you may progress to employment orapprenticeship training in the sport and active leisureindustry.A LEVEL PE (ONLY AVAILABLE WITHLEVEL 3 EXTENDED DIPLOMA SPORT)BASED AT: LANSDOWNECOURSE LEVEL: LEVEL 3ENTRY REQUIREMENTSYou must be accepted onto the Level 3 BTEC ExtendedDiploma in SportYou will require a minimum of 5 GCSE passes at gradesA* - C including English, Science and Mathematics.You must be involved as a performer, coach or officialin at least one sport outside of college/school. Wewill discuss your interests, experience and ambitions atinterview.THE COURSEThis course offers an opportunity for those studyingtheir BTEC in Sport to gain an additional qualification.<strong>The</strong> A Level involves exam based work as well aspractical coursework and allows students to refineand demonstrate their examination skills which can beuseful for university study. <strong>The</strong> AS and A2 courses eachtake 1 year to complete.<strong>The</strong> AS course covers Anatomy and Physiology, SkillAcquisition and Sociocultural aspects of sport. At A2topics studied are Exercise Physiology, Psychology andContemporary Influences on the Sports Performer.At AS for the practical module students will need totake two roles from performer, official or coach in onesport, or take on the same/different role across twodifferent sports. At A2 students choose one role in onesport for assessment in the full competitive situation.Full details of sports available for assessment can befound on the AQA website www.aqa.org.ukCandidates will be expected to be involved in atleast one sport outside of college to enhance theirachievement in the practical module.ADDITIONAL INFORMATIONThis course is only available to those studying Level 3BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport.NEXT STEPSuccess at AS level is required for progression onto A2Physical Education.You could progress to a variety of higher educationcourses in sport or sport related disciplines.Alternatively you may progress to employment orapprenticeship training in the sport and active leisureindustry.LEVEL 3 BTEC DIPLOMA IN OUTDOORADVENTURE WITH WATERSPORTS ORSURF ACADEMYBASED AT: LANSDOWNE, BOURNEMOUTHCOURSE LEVEL: LEVEL 3ENTRY REQUIREMENTSYou will require a minimum of 4 GCSE passes at gradesA* - C including English, or an equivalent to the BTECLevel 2 Diploma in Sport at Merit level as well asappropriate Functional Skills level.You should demonstrate an active interest andparticipation in outdoor activity and water sports.Students over the age of 19 without the standard entryrequirements may be eligible for this course, subject toprevious experience.THE COURSE<strong>The</strong> course follows the BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Sport(Outdoor Adventure) syllabus and is a full time coursesuitable for students with an active interest in watersports, outdoor activities or the surfing industry and aninterest in working in a related field.
